I may be a beauty editor, but I'm very much not immune to hormonal skin issues. I've tried many, many (add about 300 more "many"s) products to combat breakouts, and while my number-one skin-saving hero will always be spironolcatone, one of my latest discoveries is the Intensive Repair Serum holistic facialist Kristina Holey and natural skin-care expert Marie Veronique teamed up to create. Both women are revered in the natural beauty industry, and when their collaboration (which also spans a cleanser, toner and several other treatments) came across my desk, I was very much game to try it out.
The serum in particular is a standout for me because it was developed to reduce inflammation, the main cause of adult acne. The silky gel contains lactic acid (an AHA) and salicylic acid (a BHA) which give it a little tingling effect and help to gently exfoliate on two different levels. Together, they regulate oil production, combat congestion and breakouts and create a smoother skin texture. On top of that, it's spiked with niacinamide (another breakout-preventer that doubles as an anti-ager), licorice root (a complexion brightener) and ECGC (the potent antioxidant in green tea). Suffice it to say there's a lot of good skin stuff going on in this little bottle. After a few weeks of using it off-and-on, I'm trying to get into a more regular routine to let it really (hopefully) work its full magic on my face.
