One of the nice things about sitting 24 inches away from Stephanie, our beauty editor, five days out of the week is that she essentially operates as a traveling dermatologist. (Like, yes, she's also an incredibly kind, supportive and brilliant person whom I feel lucky to know, but for the purposes of this post, let's focus on the skin-care thing.) If I had a dime for the number of times I've made her diagnose my facial dry spots or forced her to spritz me with her fancy face mist, I would have enough dimes to stop bugging her and keep a board-certified derm on retainer.
So, last month, I made the rookie mistake of attempting to get my own face in check without any semblance of professional guidance and in turn, dried it out severely. Steph recommended that I try out the Paula's Choice Hyaluronic Acid Booster in tandem with the brand's Moisture Renewal Oil Booster, both of which had recently landed on her desk. I did, and they worked. It didn't take long for the hyaluronic acid to work its skin-plumping magic, and it did so in a dramatically hydrating fashion. Here's exactly what my face looked like just a week into using it:
Jk, that's definitely a Glossier model. But use your imagination! My skin looked so smooth and supple! I was a woman reborn.
And then, in what I can only imagine was a fit of pointedly cruel karmic retribution, I didn't close it all the way for my flight home over Thanksgiving and it leaked everywhere. So, I'm now without my Paula's Choice, but I still remember how happy it made me feel. Time to shill out the $46 and restock my supply.
