When it comes to shoes, I have a tendency to buy the same styles repeatedly. For instance, pretty much any former roommate of mine will confirm that I have a problem with black ankle boots, as in I buy very similar-looking ones too often. As soon as fall rolls around, my search begins for the perfect ones, even if I still have a perfectly good pair sitting in my closet from the previous year.

This year, now that I live in LA, I actually thought I might be able to skip this stressful process and avoid the whole boot-wearing thing altogether. (I actually don't really like wearing boots, which could be the whole problem.) But after a recent trip to New York gave me weird boot fomo and a recent trip to Malibu in sandals left me with frozen toes, I knew I needed another good pair in my wardrobe. And on Cyber Monday, I found them.

Rachel Comey, always reliable for a good ankle boot, made these, and their not-too-high block heel, rounded toe and sleek profile instantly drew me in, along with the fact that they were 30 percent off.

I like them, but still don't know if they're perfect — or, honestly, if the perfect ankle boots even truly exist.
