I don't know which is harder to believe: that it's still January, or that magazines are already revealing their March 2018 issues. Either way, any sort of reminder that winter will eventually end and we'll get closer to warmer weather is very much welcome around these parts. Which is what makes British Vogue's Spring Fashion Issue, which was revealed on Monday, such a delight: It's extra-dewy and sun-kissed, leading us to believe that its cover stars were first instructed to get a nice vacation in immediately before joining the publication on set.
About the cover stars: They're Gigi and Bella Hadid! Steven Meisel photographed the Instagirl sisters for their respective solo covers — the first time they've ever appeared on dual covers of a magazine — in matching gold chainmail Versace gowns. Gold, it turns out, is a big theme for this cover: In addition to the highlighter Gigi and Bella both appear to be pleasantly doused in, the Vogue logo and its coverlines are also gilded.
Inside, the pair discusses such topics as Gigi on posting (or not posting) about her relationship with Zayn (who professionally dropped his last name, Malik, upon going solo) and Gigi house-hunting for Bella. In the case of the latter, Gigi said: "I feel like that is symbolic of my entire life. To watch over Bella. She's one of the only people I'll get aggressive for. She makes me so proud. I would do anything for her." For any Hadid mega-fans out there (or simply those of us in dire need of our own sun-kissed moment), it sure looks like this issue is a must-have.
As incredibly beautiful as the covers (and as big a casting get as the Hadid sisters) may be, we would also be remiss if we didn't note that Edward Enninful's long-awaited diversity makeover of the magazine has, so far, resulted in five out of six cover stars being cisgender, thin and straight white women: Taylor Swift, Margot Robbie and Nicole Kidman on a shared cover (in collaboration with W) and, of course, Gigi and Bella. (Adwoa Aboah, clad in Marc Jacobs, appeared on the Enninful's perfect debut issue as editor-in-chief.) That being said, we're looking forward to seeing what features and editorials Enninful brings to the March pages — and hoping that his vision of inclusivity has not already fallen by the wayside.
