These weren't the best dresses you'll see this awards season, but following the all-black Golden Globes, they were some of the most interesting.

Thursday night marked the first awards show following the parade of black gowns that was Sunday's impactful (albeit controversial) Golden Globes, and it seems celebrities and their stylists were more than ready to bring out the color and try out some unexpected looks. The occasion? The 2018 Critics' Choice Awards: It's not exactly the most hyped or glamorous awards show: It's on a Thursday and airs on the CW, while E! doesn't even cover the red carpet. Celebrities had less to lose by wearing something a little risky or odd, so why the hell not? There's a reason why the Oscars tend to be the safest red carpet of awards season.

We were particularly fond of Kate Bosworth's white lace Brock Collection number (and the decision to wear an emerging designer), Margot Robbie's strapless Chanel (not to mention that perfect black eyeliner) and Greta Gerwig's heart-adorned Fendi look. Delpozo also scored a couple of strong (and diverse) placements with Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Kiernan Shipka, who pretty much wore the most Kiernan Shipka outfit we've ever seen.

See all that and the rest of our favorite looks from the 2018 Critics' Choice Awards in the gallery below.
