Helmut Lang is among the fashion brands that people buy not just to wear — but also to collect. Fans of the brand are known to maintain archives and devote major closet space to pieces from its most treasured collections.
To celebrate that phenomenon — and to promote the first two capsules of its Re-Edition line of re-issued classics — Helmut Lang and "editor-in-residence" Isabella Burley partnered with photographers Ari Versluis and Ellie Uyttenbroek of Exactitudes to capture 12 of the brand's "cross-generational" collectors. Of course, Kanye West and Solange Knowles are the two most notable faces, but the list also includes Jimmy Grillo, Alison Marie Isbell, Yohana Lebasi, Grace Lee Gee, Dominik Halas, Eric Lawrence, Rhamier Auguste, Johnny Petrozzino, David Gagliardi and Anna Santangelo.
Each wears pieces from either Re-Edition volumes 1 or 2 — marking the first time the second capsule has been seen — mixed with their own archival pieces. West, for example, wears a hooded parka and slashed elbow sweater with his own jeans. It's a cool way to celebrate the long history of the brand, currently helmed by Shayne Oliver, and to show how timeless Helmut Lang has proven to be.
Helmut Lang Re-Edition Volume 1 is currently available for purchase, while Volume 2 will be for sale starting Feb. 6.
