I've mentioned before that I'm somewhat of a lip balm addict. In fact, I consider myself a bit of an aficionado in that area. I've tried just about every one on the market, and I've come up with many, many favorites. But in the winter months — aka Chapped Lips Season, as I have officially dubbed it — some of my go-to formulas for the rest of the year seem to suddenly be rendered mostly useless. It is in these cold, dark, dry times that overnight skin care becomes especially important. I like to layer all of my products on nice and thick, and then make sure the top layer is something heavy enough to seal everything in and keep it from evaporating into the arid abyss of my bedroom while I sleep. That goes for my lips, too. And that's where K-beauty brand Laneige's Lip Sleeping Mask comes in.
It's nice and thick and viscous — the texture of a soft, buttery caramel — and it comes with a little silicone spatula that allows you to scoop out the product and slather it over your lips without having to get your fingers all goopy. It smells exactly like the "Tropical"-flavored Fruit Roll-Ups and also happens to really, truly work. With shea butter, beta-glucan, antioxidants, glycerin and a blend of many different waxes, it cocoons (I usually loathe that word when it's used in beauty ads or product descriptions, but in this case it really applies — your mouth is so snug under it!) lips in a layer of coddling ingredients. I also love that in the morning I can still feel a bit of its smooth sheen remaining on my lips, actual hard proof that it does its job and doesn't just disappear overnight. It soothes even my most irritated, angriest chapped lips in just one use, which is why I'm completely hooked. (Well that and the Fruit Roll-Up scent, obviously.)
