Lupita Nyong'o has many talents, which include (but are certainly not limited to) acting, maintaining a perfect complexion and looking good in all manner of clothing. The latter items on that list have been proven on red carpets over and over, and were once again confirmed by Nyong'o's appearance at the The National Board Of Review Annual Awards Gala on January 9 in New York City.
Wearing a sparkly black velvet crop top and figure-hugging skirt from Balmain's Pre-Fall 2018 collection, Nyong'o made pointy shoulder pads look cooler than they've seemed in a long time. The bold silver button details and subtle sparkle kept the look more interesting than your average LBD, even when accessorized with understated black Jimmy Choo heels and a few subtle Dana Rebecca Designs rings. Topped off with an elegant asymmetrical updo by hairstylist Vernon François and makeup by Nick Barose that higlighted Nyong'o's perfect skin, this look was a win all around. We'll have whatever she's having.
