On Sunday evening, Angela Bassett joined Tracee Ellis Ross, Issa Rae, Tiffany Haddish and more at The 2018 American Black Film Festival Honors Awards, held at The Beverly Hilton Hotel. While toasting to the talents of African Americans in the film industry, the "Black Panther" actress channeled her inner Wakandan queen in a $169 dress from Mangishi Doll, a four-year-old, Afro-eclectic clothing line. (It's sadly sold out currently, but here's hoping for a re-stock.)
The fitted midi dress, which was ethically crafted in the brand's studio in Zambia, features an eye-catching graphic print made up of bright blues, reds and yellows. Bassett's stylist Jennifer Austin went heavy on gold statement jewelry to play off the angular shapes from the dress: Bassett sported a large circular ring and triangular, neck-grazing earrings, as well as a selection of diamond bangles and chunky, chain-link bracelets. To complete the impactful look, hairstylist Randy Stodghil created a voluminous, Diana Ross-style wig for Bassett. And with so much going on on the top, Basset kept the footwear nice and quiet, with some simple, strappy black Casadei stilettos.
