We're halfway through New York Fashion Week, and after shuffling between shows in the cold and two days straight of rain, we could really use a little pick me up right about now. Luckily, we found that in Desmond Is Amazing (real name Desmond Napoles), a drag kid from Brooklyn who made his runway debut at Gypsy Sport's Fall 2018 show on Sunday night.
The 10-year-old rose to fame within the LGTBQ community in 2015 after attending (and vogueing at) Pride in New York City. His star has only risen over the years, and in 2017, he and RuPaul introduced DragCon's first convention on the East Coast together. Napoles is also using his growing platform for good: He's an advocate for LGBTQ youth and he founded the soon-to-launch, first-ever drag house for individuals aged 20 and under called Haus of Amazing.
In addition to Napoles, several other models' strong stage presences energized the crowd, as designer Rio Uribe is known for his extremely inclusive lineup of creatives and close friends, which included Diandra Forrest, the Clermont twins, makeup pro Raisa Thomas and artist Amara Desta Korley, to name a few.
As Napoles took the runway for the first time, he was welcomed with cheers, smiles and snaps. It was clear that his energy instantly livened up the room, and we all left the show venue ready to take on the rest of fashion week because of him.
