Beauty tutorials are big on YouTube — a search for "makeup tutorial" and "hair tutorial" yields more than five million videos. In this weekly series, we put a mix of popular and under-the-radar tutorials to the test and show you what's best.
One of the keys to looking awake — even when you're not — is to make your eyes look as wide-open as possible. And because many of us will never really be able to feel well-rested, no matter how hard we try, makeup is a helpful way to cheat with a little help from makeup. In a tutorial from Wayne Goss, the makeup artist and YouTuber demonstrates his carefully honed method for making eyes look larger and more exaggerated.
He begins by arming himself with a fairly basic (though extensive) eye-shadow palette and a fluffy brush, and then strategically highlighting and shading different areas of the eyelid in order to create the illusion of a longer, bigger eye shape.
The entire process is fairly involved, but it's not super complicated. And if you've got some extra time over the weekend, it's a weirdly calming and satisfying video to watch — not to mention, experiment with for yourself.
