It's fair to assume that exactly zero people were shocked when industry-disrupting beauty mogul and new mom Kylie Jenner went from giving birth to monetizing said baby in just a few weeks via her latest Kylie Cosmetics collection. She is Kris Jenner's offspring and a keen business woman, after all. The latest drop from the makeup megabrand, dubbed The Weather Collection, is not — as one might initially assume — a nod to the fact that weather seems to be the one thing a Kardashian or Jenner has yet to take control of, but rather a tribute to Jenner's newborn daughter, Stormi Webster.
She explained the connection in an Instagram story: "So, before I open my newest collection I just wanted to tell you guys a little bit of the background," she said. "I worked on this pretty much my entire pregnancy. And right after we chose Stormi's name, her name really inspired me."
The 11-piece range literally draws inspiration from weather events. It includes a four-shade highlighter palette, two eye-shadow palettes, four cream glitter shadows (packaged into duos), three matte lipsticks, a glitter lip gloss, a loose powder highlighter and a gel eyeliner in a shocking school bus yellow. The items each retail for between $14 and $44, and will be available on Wednesday, Feb. 28 at 3 p.m. PST on KylieCosmetics.com. With shade names like "Cloud 9," "Lightning Bolt," "Northern Light" and "Violet Moon," the products are flashy, glitter-laden and anything but subtle, despite being inspired by Mother Nature.
On Tuesday, just ahead of the launch, I was, by some act of Kylie, deemed worthy of receiving a press mailing — specifically, a large box that contained the full product lineup, and also emitted storm sounds that made me jump in fright as I opened it (I recently binged a Unabomber show on Netflix, what do you want from me?). What's a beauty editor in possession of yet-to-be-released Kylie Cosmetics to do? Immediately dive in, test every single product and then share her snap judgments with all of Fashionista's lovely readers, of course. In the gallery below, that's exactly what I've done. And it's quite a journey, let me tell ya.
