Ever since announcing her engagement to Prince Harry, the world's eyes have been fixed on Meghan Markle — and her style. We'll be following the Meghan Markle Effect™ with our column, "Meghan Markle Wore a Thing."
On Wednesday, Meghan Markle Did a Thing while Wearing a Thing: She joined fiancé Prince Harry and future in-laws Prince William and Kate Middleton for the first annual Royal Foundation event in London to discuss charitable plans for the future. Oh, and she did so while wearing a sleeveless navy Jason Wu wrap dress. Markle styled the simple, trench-style dress with black pointed-toe heels and minimal jewelry. (Well, as minimal as you can get with that sparkler of an engagement ring.)
Being that Middleton was also in attendance, she, too Wore a Thing, in the form of a (currently sold-out) violet-blue Séraphine maternity dress. But the content of the royals' (and soon-to-be-royal's) discussion is also worth noting. Markle spoke about the social movements currently underway to empower women.
"I think right now in the climate we are seeing so many campaigns, I mean #MeToo and Time's Up, there is no better time to really continue to shine a light on women feeling empowered and people really helping to support them — men included in that. I mean, it makes such a tremendous difference," she said, according to Vogue UK. This and a potential Spice Girls reunion at the wedding? Meghan Markle is quickly establishing herself as a Girl Power Icon.
