We've had a string of rainy days in New York City, and as we make our way into March and April, I'm betting we're in for many more showers. Somehow, I've lived the past three years on this planet without a proper raincoat, leaving my shearling toppers and flimsy umbrellas to fend for themselves during the wet months. But as of late, the popularity of long, patent leather and shiny trenches on the street style crowd and on the runways — or office aisles (re: Alexander Wang) — has inspired me to invest in cool, water-repellant outerwear.
This Stutterheim trench made from rubberized cotton fits the bill: It has a high-gloss finish, giving it that lustrous, leather-looking appearance and comes equipped with a fashionable waist tie and statement-making zips at the sleeves. I like that it throws subtle futuristic punches and gives a nod to the Bella Hadid-approved "Matrix" trend — just add teeny shades! I will say this bold coat is a departure from my usual lineup of pastel knits and cream-colored scarves, but I'm feeling daring and am up for the coat challenge.
Lund Opal Black Trenchcoat, $459, available at Stutterheim.
