Spring may be in the air, but stars veered away from pastels and bright florals on the red carpet this week in favor of a bolder black-and-white scheme. It's easy to see why: black is a fail-proof option if you're looking for something slimming, it's hard to stain and unlikely to show off weird bulges when photographed with flash. But all it takes is a bit of white to take an all-black ensemble from safe to statement-making, which ups the appeal even more.

A host of celebs used this trick this week. For "Stranger Things" star Millie Bobby Brown in California, that meant donning a gauzy star-covered number from Oscar de La Renta, while her co-star Sadie Sink opted for a vegan leather ensemble from newish label Hiraeth. Across the pond in Hong Kong, OG blogger Bryanboy wore a black Valentino suit with white piping to an amFar gala, while Yara Shahidi worked the Kids' Choice Awards red carpet in polka-dotted Rasario. Janelle Monae, behold your impact.
