I lived in Chicago for a few years before I lived in New York, so maybe I have no excuse to still be such a wuss about winter, but I am. It is March, and I would really, really like it to be spring, but it is not. So, even though I fantasize about the things I'm going to wear once it is more temperate outside, in reality, I am still layering leggings under my pants and bundling into oversized scarves and cocooning myself in wool. For my real, right-now life, I want clothing that feels as cheery as the soon-to-come end of winter makes me feel, but I also want stuff that keeps me warm.
This alpaca turtleneck from conscious knitwear label Hesperios could be just the ticket. I like that it's not too bulky too wear under things — I imagine it would look great layered under a black jumpsuit or denim overalls, or even just tucked into high-waisted jeans — and bright red never fails to make me feel a bit less invisible on gray days. Here's to being practical about the weather without being blah.
Susannah turtleneck, $175, available at Hesperios.
