Judging by the wealth of Cher Horowitz-approved plaid and other assorted nostalgia on the Fall 2018 runways, designers have clearly been watching "Clueless" on repeat for style inspiration. As someone who made a point to dress up as the Beverly Hills blonde every Halloween, I am very here for the '90s prep-meets-grunge aesthetic that has us digging through her digitized closet full of checkered twin sets, berets, cropped cardigans, sheer pieces and mini backpacks for some sartorial inspiration.

Cher's penchant for plaid was often accessorized with knee-high socks and bite-size bags. Perhaps the most notable among her tiny satchels was her shrunken backpack, which I'm betting carried only her furry pen and some lip gloss, considering the fictional Valley girl wasn't so concerned with books. But in an age when we prefer to travel light and all we really need is a smartphone, a small double-strapped bag modeled after the traditional school sack is really the perfect accessory.

Plenty of luxury labels have recreated Cher's favorite mini bag by splashing their logos all over leather-finished knapsacks; more affordable brands have followed by offering small backpacks done in denim, pretty pastel suedes and printed polyesters, which all come in a variety of shapes — from boxy to round— and boast some attention-grabbing zippers and shiny hardware.

Shop a variety of teeny backpacks — fit for both Cher and your essentials — in the gallery below.
