I used to extremely loathe wearing shorts. I'm not even exactly sure when my distaste in short-length bottoms started or from where it even stems. But what I do know is that I've spent many hot summer days in jeans or pants, and let me tell you, it was the worst.
Currently, I have a few pairs of shorts in my possession but it's a very small collection — exactly two — and strictly of the denim-cutoffs variety — one in a light blue wash, the other in black. When I get the urge to shop for new clothes for warmer weather, stocking up on shorts is the list thing on my wish list. However, I think I'm going to make an exception this time around for a pair of Burberry check shorts. The vintage motif, courtesy of Christopher Bailey's final collection for the British heritage brand, strikes a nice balance between statement print and neutral. And I like the elastic waist and slightly oversize silhouette. Ultimate comfort.
I could see myself wearing these shorts with a graphic hoodie and slides for a quick bagel run, or I can tuck a crisp white T-shirt or blouse into them, along with sneakers or nice sandals for a fun day trip or night out. The designer price tag is steep, but I think the cost per wear checks out. That is, if it finally starts to get warmer anytime soon.
Burberry Beige Vintage Check Shorts, $350, available at SSENSE.
