Dolce & Gabbana Threw a Very Extra 'Alta Moda' Weekend In New York City

The three-night extravaganza included a women's collection showcase at The Metropolitan Opera House.

When it was announced that Dolce & Gabbana would throw its three-night Alta Moda extravaganza in New York City, we were curious to see how Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana would showcase their couture offerings on U.S. soil — especially since the designers are known for hosting Alta Moda in classic Italian destinations, most recently in Milan, Sicily and Naples. But the cityscape atmosphere didn't deter from the Italian house's signature high-octane glamour. The weekend kicked off with a presentation at the New York Public Library for Dolce & Gabbana's Alta Gioielleria high jewelry line on Friday, followed by the men's couture Alta Sartoria show at the Rainbow Room at Rockefeller Center on Saturday and finally on Sunday, the women's collection debut at The Metropolitan Opera House.

A-List celebrities, such as Dakota Fanning, Catherine Zeta Jones (with her daughter Carys Douglas), Diane Kruger and Jamie Foxx, along with top clientele from as far as Russia, the Middle East, China and the UK were in attendance to witness Dolce & Gabbana's latest couture collection — a romantic ode to New York City with every single sparkling and statement embellishment you can think of: feathers, fur, ruffles, sequins, crystals, fringe and the like.

"We love everything about the city, the food, the people you meet on the streets, the skyscrapers, the restaurants, the subway, the nightlife, the lights that never go out. I could go on forever," said Gabbana to Added Dolce, "To us, New York is the city where dreams come true."

Read on to see some highlights from Dolce & Gabbana's Alta Moda show, which serves as plenty of great material for that "Don't Be Extra" meme.
