As streetwear continues to dominate the fashion industry, Gosha Rubchinskiy is already pivoting to something else. On Wednesday morning, the Russian designer announced on Instagram that he will stop his namesake brand "as you've known it," specifically seasonal collections, with plans for a brand new project.
Rubchinskiy, who recently showed his (not-so-diverse) Fall 2018 collection in the city of Yekaterinburg in January, spoke out about his boredom with seasonal collections to Hypebeast when the streetwear-focused media brand interviewed Rubchinskiy in Beijing for the reopening of Dover Street Market.
"For us, the main thing is to grow Paccbet. For my own Gosha line, I'm a bit tired of doing season to season collections," he said. "I want to change the strategy and do more project-based things. Maybe that means a womenswear line sometime. We want to do more collections and collaborations with Paccbet. Our capsule with Carhartt was only our first step."
Paccbet, which Rubchinskiy founded with a team of Russian skaters and artists, launched in September 2016. The skateboard brand debuted a 12-piece collection in collaboration with Carhartt WIP at the beginning of this year. The designer also revealed to Hypebeast that he plans to open a skate shop in Moscow called Oktyabr. "Russia's first real cool skate shop," he said.
We've reached out to a representative for Gosha Rubchinskiy and will update this post as we learn more.
