There's one piece of beauty advice that's been given to brides so many times, it's practically cliché: For your wedding, you want to look like the best version of yourself. In other words, your hair and makeup should represent your usual aesthetic, but just perhaps with a bit more polish and gleam. For Meghan Markle's wedding to Prince Harry on Saturday, she certainly seemed to take that philosophy to heart.
Markle was reportedly supposed to do her own makeup for the occasion, with the help of her best friends (aw!). But it just so happened that said friend was none other than makeup artist Daniel Martin, whose clientele includes Jessica Alba, Elisabeth Moss, Demi Lovato, Rowan Blanchard, Olivia Culpo and Greta Gerwig. Markle wore a predictably classic beauty look, featuring subtly glossy lips and elegantly minimalist makeup (and presumably, a really good waterproof mascara).
The bride wore her hair swept back in a low, center-parted updo, tucked neatly at the nape of her neck, accented with a stunningly sparkly tiara that peeked out beneath a dramatic, full-length lace veil. It was the handiwork of Serge Normant, the hairstylist perhaps best known for his work with longtime clients Julia Roberts and Sarah Jessica Parker.
The speculation that Markle might appear in the same tiara that Princess Diana had worn for her wedding to Prince Charles back in 1981 proved not to be accurate. But Markle did select an accessory with a royal history to adorn her bridal hairstyle and hold her veil in place: Kensington Palace confirmed via Twitter that it was Queen Mary's diamond bandeau tiara, on loan from The Queen. According to the statement, "The diamond bandeau is English and was made in 1932, with the... brooch dating from 1893."
Markle capped off the look with closely-cropped, meticulously manicured nude nails — perfect for waving to the adoring crowds. Without question, Markle absolutely nailed the bridal beauty aesthetic, walking down the aisle a (somehow) even more perfect — yet recognizable — version of herself.
Congratulations to the blushing bride and the happy couple!
