As became clear quite early in the evening, a bulk of Monday's Met Gala attendees addressed this year's theme with regal statement headwear. Standouts included Rihanna's hat — a pretty literal nod to the Pope; Madonna's crown and veil, which looked like something she might have worn on stage in the '80s; Kate Bosworth's lovely fabric head covering; and Anne Hathaway's futuristic bundle of gold sticks. Crowns, tiaras and halo headpieces were especially popular, as were statement hair accessories and flowers.

There were certainly varying levels of relevance to the event's "Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination" theme, but the Met Gala red carpet has always been a bit of an "A for Effort" situation, and these stars committed. We (and Anna Wintour, probably) appreciate it.
