The Met Gala held this Monday night was a delightfully extra ordeal full of pearl-encrusted maternity wear, dress trains longer than their wearers are tall and literal crowns and halos. And as glad as we are that celebs kept it interesting this year, the extremely over-the-top looks that debuted on the red carpet made Saoirse Ronan's pared-down ensemble at the "On Chesil Beach" screening in London on Tuesday night seem refreshingly quiet.
Wearing floor-skimming flared pants with a tulle top over a strapless underlay from Cushnie et Ochs, Ronan's look was memorable while still seeming subdued. She managed to walk the fine line between sexy and sophisticated by keeping largely covered but showing a bit of skin through her sheer top, and her simple makeup — a bit of color on lips and cheeks, just a hint of eye-defining mascara and liner — played up her features without being distracting. Her only accessories were a pair of unobtrusive Loucite by Alison Lou hoops and a couple of silver rings. We may still be oohing and ahhing at Rihanna dressed as the Pope, but Saoirse's who we'll be trying to dress like in real life this weekend.
