I've already recounted my obsession with Sloane Peterson, "Ferris Bueller's Day Off"'s leading lady, across the internet for many years. And yet, despite a self-imposed expectation that the mania would dissipate with each tweet or blog post, it's still persisted after all these years. Sometimes in my shopping adventures, I'll stumble across an item that, I'll think to myself, is "very Sloane," which is (obviously) a great thing. This very response recently occurred while browsing Net-a-Porter for a pair of high-rise, '80-ish shorts to either wear alone or in a decidedly '80s move, with a coordinating blazer.
Sloane, obviously, wears oversize shorts throughout the entire movie, but this pair from Alice + Olivia is more contemporary than others I've considered. The stripe is fresh and the crisp pleat gives them a little formality, meaning I could wear the shorts with a blouse to a fancy lunch meeting. I'd also love to style them with a simple white tee and tennis sneakers for something a bit more casual — like ditching school, stealing your friend's dad's 1961 Ferrari 250 GT California Spyder and escorting Abe Froman, the Sausage King of Chicago, to lunch.
Alice + Olivia Scarlet Pleated Striped Linen-Blend Shorts, $265, available here.
