But by the looks of the Resort 2019 collection, that's finally all in the past for the brand. It's the debut collection of designer Wes Gordon, who officially took over the reigns from the iconic Carolina Herrera, the woman, after she stepped back from her namesake label in February. (Though she's still around, taking on the title of Global Brand Ambassador.) Gordon has been helping steer the ship for over a year, but Resort 2019 is the first collection to bear his visual stamp — and it's excellent.
It's a bright, sunny collection worthy of that most coveted of fashion adjectives — youthful — which also still manages to capture the elegant, elevated spirit of its founder. There's still suiting, but it's rendered in bubblegum pink; those statement evening gowns are whipped up in slightly more casual fabrics and prints that hint at a quirky edge. Perhaps most thrillingly, Lena Waithe's excellent rainbow cape, worn to the Met Gala, finds a second life as chiffon dress and fur coat pairing.
There was a lot to love from Gordon's official debut. Check out Carolina Herrera's full Resort 2019 lookbook below:
