Because heaven knows we could all use some cheerful color right now.

Look, it's been a rough week. If we're being truly honest with ourselves, it's been a rough year — probably even longer, depending on the timeline you're keeping. But after a seemingly endless winter, the days are starting to get sunnier, warmer and filled with dreamy possibilities: lazily lounging by the pool or in the park with friends, drinking frozen cocktails, eating ice cream instead of proper meals, deeply breathing in the salty ocean breeze. These simple pleasures can certainly help combat the relentless stream of bad news and terrifying headlines, but you know what else might? A super-fun summer dress so full of color that it instantly brightens up your day.

This striped number from eco-friendly favorite Reformation is just the sort of lightweight garment that I love to throw on during a heat wave. Aside from a pair of sneakers or sandals, you don't even need to think about accessorizing it — the cheerful palette speaks for itself. Its midi-length hemline and sexy open back make it appropriate for a summer party if you add some heels, but at its core, it's the ideal cute, casual go-to piece for everyday wear in sweltering temperatures. (And for Pride Month celebrations!) I am planning to buy it as a treat not only to myself, but also as a little nod to anyone out there who might need some joy in their lives.

Just think of that '80s cartoon character Rainbow Brite. According to Wikipedia, her mission was "to make the world brighter and hearts lighter by replacing darkness with color and light." Who's to say we can't do the same?
