Gucci's Cruise 2019 Men's Lookbook Stars Seriously Overdressed for Summer Vacation

The result is a wealth of outfit inspo, so it's OK.

In the weeks surrounding the Cannes Film Festival this past spring, it seemed as if every marginally famous person under the sun was vacationing in the South of France and sporting the requisite glamorous European beach wardrobe.

Never one to do what's expected, Alessandro Michele set Gucci's Cruise 2019 men's lookbook shoot in the same French Riviera town — not far from Arles, where the show took place — and their looks couldn't be less holiday-appropriate. There are wool plaid suits, leather boots, printed blazers, Chateau Marmont sweatshirts, an array of interlocking G prints on clothes and accessories alike, often paired with clashing patterns, headscarves, lace-up skinny pants, silk robes with track pants, metallic bell-bottoms, beanies, sequined pullovers, a floral puffer, a fur coat and statement jewelry — all layered unexpectedly but intriguingly; there is plenty of outfit inspo to cull from the almost-80 looks. While some recall glam rock or punk ways of dressing, others have tinges of skate style and gorpcore and other mix them all together.

As a result, the models all look comically out of place against the sunny backdrops of palm trees, lounge chairs, yachts, beaches and swimsuit-clad vacationers at and around the InterContinental Carlton Cannes Hotel and Carlton Beach Club. They also look indisputably Gucci.
