As any dress-loving person who's attended a '20s-themed party can tell you, flapper fringe is a serious pleasure for the wearer. It might look alright on a mannequin, but the real joy is in the way all those tiny filaments fan out with every step or shimmy. While the motion is enough to make fringe fun on its own, the most classic flapper iterations tend to come in a less-than-lively monochrome black. Which is why Mandy Moore's version, worn on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" on Tuesday night, felt so fresh.
Moore appeared on the show to promote her upcoming film "The Darkest Minds" and to discuss her TV show "This Is Us" wearing a Missoni dress featuring layers of flapper-appropriate fringe in a rainbow of candy-like colors. The dress's fitted bustier top added a sense of structure to the otherwise loosely-defined silhouette, and a bit of subtle sparkle added another layer of interest. Moore finished the look off perfectly with simple strappy heels, bright pinky-red lipstick and hair in a simple tousled ponytail.
