It was just last March that red carpet darling and Miu Miu house-favorite celebrity Elle Fanning walked the brand's Fall 2018 runway, both opening and closing the show. While this was intended to be a one time thing, Miuccia Prada told Vogue Runway's Nicole Phelps that, just days before the show, she decided to call up the ladies headed to pack her Parisian front row and ask if they would consider walking in it instead.
"We called them in the morning, they jumped on the plane, and then they arrived — they all said yes," the designer said backstage. "Uma told me, 'I've never had a decision so spontaneous since ages.'"
The "Uma" in question here is Uma Thurman, who joined the likes of Alexa Chung, Rowan Blanchard, Sadie Sink (who is quickly becoming a runway veteran herself) and Gwendoline Christie on the Cruise 2019 runway alongside supermodels like Naomi Campbell and Kaia Gerber. If there's one way to convince your would-be red carpet clientele that these looks were made to sparkle in the spotlight, this is certainly it. The louche, 1960s-inspired pieces would be right at home on any press tour circuit or awards season event.
Of course, Ms. Prada is no stranger to a celeb-filled runway, having once invited Adrien Brody, Willem Dafoe and Gary Oldman to walk a menswear show in 2012, nor does she need any help getting her clothes on the backs of famous folks. But it can't hurt, right?
