If Ouai's 2018 version of Sun-In, which debuted earlier this summer, had you wondering what buzzy new hair product Jen Atkin would dream up for her brand next, I have the answer to that all-important query: a dog shampoo. But of course!
In mid-July, the Instabait hair-care brand will debut its first-ever non-human-oriented product, officially called "Pet Shampoo," though I'm assuming that's really just an unnecessarily broad way of saying it's for dogs. (Does anyone wash their cat? Gerbil? Parakeet? Please advise, I'm not what you'd call an "animal person.")
According to a release, the shampoo is "formulated with odor-fighting cleansers" and apple cider vinegar, aloe and hibiscus extract, and promises to "leave your pet looking shiny and less knotty." Like Ouai's human hair-care lineup, the Pet Shampoo omits parabens, sulfates and phtalates, and boasts one of Ouai's signature fancy fragrances: No. 1, "a sheer and airy floral/musk" which comprises notes of Italian lemon, Turkish rose, jasmine sambac, iris, lily and white musk.
While the launch is certainly a bit of a curveball for the brand, it's not the first nod to its affinity for four-legged friends: Back in August 2017, Ouai featured a dog-fluencer — Chrissy Teigen's late pup Pippa (may she rest in peace) — prominently in a promotional campaign. This puppy love has been part of the brand's ethos in the past, and, hey, dog-fluencers deserve have good hair days, too.
The product will retail for the (somewhat jaw-dropping, if you ask me) price of $28. Yes, that's a nice chunk of change to drop on bath time for your canine BFF, but it's important to note that 15 percent of proceeds will be donated to the Vanderpump Dog Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charity organization that aims to "create a better world for dogs" by promoting dog rescue, adoption and education domestically and globally. While you're pampering your pawed pal (say that five times fast) with a luxurious beauty treatment, you'll also be supporting pups far and wide.
To celebrate the launch of the animal-oriented shampoo, Ouai went all in on a pet-filled campaign. Photographed by Charlie Nunn, the series of truly delightful photos features a crew of four-legged models — including plenty of dogs, a few cats and even one very chill pig (!) — sudsing up. Ouai's Pet Shampoo will be available beginning on July 12 on TheOuai.com.
