The experience of being Black and working in fashion 
"There have never been more than one or two Black editors-in-chief of any major U.S. magazines, and only one Black designer leading a major American fashion brand," writes Lindsay Peoples Wagner in piece for The Cut. But if you look at newsstands, the diversity at the CFDA Awards and the appointments of Virgil Abloh and Edward Enninful, it would seem that "fashion is having a real love affair with 'Blackness.'" Is this the case or "in an industry that prizes progressiveness, is this just another fad?" To find out, Wagner surveyed more than 100 Black individuals working in the industry, from assistants to executives, stylists, celebrities, models and everyone in between. {The Cut

The RealReal may have a leg up on luxury brands 
Gently used high-end fashion is trending, as millennial shoppers embrace the treasure-hunt experience that only secondhand shopping gives them. This trend, coupled with The RealReal's recognition that a product's resale market helps support first-time sales and is a vital part of the greater luxury market, is why the fashion reseller is becoming a force to be reckoned with in both the primary and secondary luxury spaces. {Forbes

Will Marchesa make a comeback at the Emmys? 
It's been a little less than a year since the Harvey Weinstein scandal shook Hollywood and left the red carpet largely devoid of Marchesa gowns. But with Scarlett Johansson making a statement in Marchesa at the Met Gala in May, many are wondering if we will see more of the label at the upcoming Emmys. Gap to expand This Way Ahead program 
Gap Inc. launched its This Way Ahead initiative 11 years ago to provide a path to a first job for 16-to-24-year-olds who face hurdles finding and keeping a first job. The company recently announced that it will expand the program from 15 cities to 53 cities globally. The bulk of this expansion will be a result of a new national partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs of America. The partnership will enable This Way Ahead to be offered year-round with hiring opportunities at participating Banana Republic, Gap and Old Navy stores. {Fashionista inbox}

ASOS will use scraps of waste products to make sanitary pads for women in Africa
On Thursday, the ASOS Foundation and SOKO Community Trust announced the introduction of The Kujuwa Initiative, which will provide health education for young women of the Kasigua region of Kenya, who are forced to miss school due to lack of accessible menstrual care products. In addition, ASOS has worked to develop washable, reusable sanitary pads constructed using scraps of waste fabrics from the ASOS Made In Kenya collections and made by local seamstresses. {Vogue UK
