If "never wear brown with black" is one of those old-school fashion "rules" you once followed, allow Leighton Meester to prove that it — like most so-called fashion rules — was made to be broken. While attending an ABC Television event in Beverly Hills to promote her new show "Single Parents," Meester opted for a floor-length dress by Zimmermann that transformed the sometimes-cutesy polka-dot print into something distinctly elegant. Voluminous sleeves, a deep V neckline and a striped belt worn at the waist all contributed to the effect.
With a print that busy, Meester's stylist Jamie Mizrahi selected matching brown peep-toe heels from The Row that showed off Meester's bright pedicure while still keeping the look streamlined. Otherwise Meester kept it simple, wearing only her wedding ring in the way of accessories.
Meester's pretty, understated makeup look by makeup artist Kelsey Deenihan also deserves a mention: The actress wore groomed, natural-looking brows, a hint of shimmery eye shadow and fluttery lashes, offset by bright lipstick in a perfect shade of orange-y red. Her hair, styled by Clariss Anya Rubenstein, was pulled back but for a few face-framing layers. But perhaps the real star was Meester's glowy skin, which barely seems to have aged since her "Gossip Girl" days. If that doesn't make you want to up your skincare routine, nothing will.
