Ever since announcing her engagement to Prince Harry, the world's eyes have been fixed on Meghan Markle — and her style. We'll be following the Meghan Markle Effect™ with our column, "Meghan Markle Wore a Thing."
This Saturday is a big day on the royal couple's calendar: It's Meghan Markle's 37th birthday, and Prince Harry is serving as a best man at his close pal's Charlie van Straubenzee's wedding. The nuptials went down in the village of Churt in Surrey, and the Duchess of Sussex was dressed appropriately (and affordably) for the summer affair in a short sleeve button-down navy Club Monaco dress, which features a breezy mid-length pleated and colorblocked skirt. The $328 frock is certainly a departure from her usual Givenchy and Oscar de la Renta wares, but Markle is no stranger to wearing more accessible brands, like Aritzia. To add her own personal touch to the dress, Markle left the top part slightly unbuttoned to expose a black lace undergarment and added a shiny leather belt around the waist.
Though it is her birthday, Markle didn't sport a party hat. Instead, she chose an elegant black fascinator by Phillip Treacy. The cocktail-style hat was perched on the top of her head, worn over her hair, which was left down and styled in loose curls. The Duchess further accessorized the look with a black Kayu straw clutch and her go-to Aquazzura Deneuve pumps.
Pictures from the event show Markle flashing a bright smile, but who could blame her? She married her Prince at 36 and can pull off a navy get-up like no one has before. We hope her 37th year can top this last one. Happy birthday Meghan!
