It's not the Emmy Awards' fault, necessarily, but the fact that they fell on a Monday evening during Fashion Month meant they really had to bring it. And as far as the red carpet was concerned, "it" was, indeed, brought. We were pleasantly surprised to see a fair amount of creativity, whimsy and general fun with fashion — and possibly even more on the beauty front.
Stars didn't hold back when it came to making bold, colorful makeup choices: Aidy Bryant, Rachel Brosnahan, Tatiana Maslany, Jessica Biel, Nathalie Emmanuel, Sadie Sink and Tracee Ellis Ross each wore stunning variations of bright lips. An array of hues were represented, including coral, crimson, rose and berry. In Ellis Ross's case, she took that burst of color one step further, pairing fuchsia lipstick with a matte orange eye shadow. Even alongside a show-stopping dress, it made a statement.
Inventive hairstyles also abounded, with accessory-adorned updos on Sink, Zazie Beetz and Letitia Wright and clean, slick styles trending on the likes of Claire Foy and Maslany. But it wasn't just women bringing memorable beauty looks to the Emmys; guys like Jonathan Van Ness — in his patented, perfectly-groomed 'stache and ponytail — and Joe Keery — in his requisite impressively voluminous pompadour — also stole the show with their grooming.
