Ever since announcing her engagement to Prince Harry, the world's eyes have been fixed on Meghan Markle — and her style. We'll be following the Meghan Markle Effect™ with our column, "Meghan Markle Wore a Thing."
While the rise of athleisure and the ever-growing influence of streetwear has more and more of us wearing hoodies and sneakers outside the gym, there are a few people who consistently resist the siren song of the sweatpant. Among them, understandably, is Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex. On Monday, she attended the Coach Core Awards at Loughborough University in England, and though it was a sporting event that took place on a basketball court — theoretically the perfect place to get away with flat shoes and athleisure — she opted to wear a drape-y Oscar de la Renta blouse with black pants and high heels instead.
The Duchess was a picture of royal decorum in the asymmetrical navy belted blouse designed by Oscar de la Renta's Fernando Garcia and Laura Kim. Paired with slim black pants, black heels and a dainty gemstone necklace, the look was muted but elegant. And though it might not have involved a pair of yoga leggings, it was still comfortable enough for the Duchess to get involved in the day's activities, not holding her back from throwing around a basketball or two. We'll be keeping this look in mind the next time we get dressed for any sports-adjacent event.
