Rihanna Covers 'Allure''s Annual 'Best of Beauty' Issue

And Fenty Beauty is honored with a brand-new award.

Allure announced its 22nd annual "Best of Beauty" issue on Monday, and with it, a new cover star: Rihanna. The creator of Fenty Beauty is honored inside with the 2018 Breakthrough Award for Fenty's "rallying cry for inclusivity in beauty [that] was heard around the world," according to a press release. This marks the first time that Allure has given a Breakthrough Award to any brand or product.

"Fenty Beauty disrupted an already crowded market, not with technology or scientific invention, but with ideology," writes Allure's editor-in-chief Michelle Lee in her editor's letter. "There was real thought put into what its inclusive shade range represented — and that sense of purpose was evident in every Instagram post, every marketing campaign, every event, every model casting. Nearly overnight, the paradigm had shifted."

On the issue's cover, shot by Nadine Ijewere, Rihanna shows off a Fenty Beauty look created by her longtime makeup artist Priscilla Ono, complete with shimmery eyes and subtly glossy lips.

While the cover story doesn't actually include an interview with Rihanna, it does feature multiple "love letters" from fans and friends, including writer Ashley C. Ford, who confesses to Rihanna that "because of you, I am no longer afraid to be hungry, and I am unashamed of what I hunger for" and Slick Woods, who writes "you made inclusivity cool, and that's revolutionary."
