Fashionista's 42 Favorite Bags of Spring 2019 Fashion Month
It's been just over a week (we know, we can't believe it, either) since the Spring 2019 shows wrapped in Paris, and now that we've had some time to digest this season's biggest trends (from both the runways and the street), the most noteworthy designer debuts and the deeper cultural significance behind the collections, the moment has come for us to focus on the industry's real moneymakers: the accessories.
In all four fashion capitals, luxury houses are faced with a daunting task every time fashion month rolls around — creating a must-have "It" bag or shoe that will not only drive customers to shop their goods six months down the road, but that could also become so ubiquitous that it builds international brand awareness for shoppers of all ages. While some brands do this by doubling down on logos, preying on consumer nostalgia or a combination of the two (see: the re-release of both Dior's Saddle Bag and Fendi's Baguette Bag), other will play with unusual proportions, sizes, shapes and fabrications to stand out from their peers.
The Spring 2019 handbag offering was chock full of whimsical options, from open-knit beach bags to teeny tiny top-handle totes to clutches meant to look like rolled-up magazines to brand-new iterations of the fanny pack. For those looking for something more classic, there were plenty of timeless leather pieces to covet; in addition to your typical black, saddle brown or sandy tones, labels like Prada, Valentino and Marc Jacobs presented ladylike shapes in tie-dye, cherry red and sweet, candy-colored pastels.
From millennial- and Instagram-friendly all-over logos to sophisticated, structured carryalls, we've edited down the season's offering to our 42 favorite standout styles from the recent runways.
