Nailing a red carpet look is no easy task, so it's unsurprising that so many celebrities choose to play it safe with pieces that might not land them on best-dressed lists, but that also won't draw much criticism. For the more adventurous, however, there's lots of fun to be had, and this week was rich in red carpet ensembles that were plenty playful. Tess Holliday opted for all-over rainbow fringe in her Eloquii dress, while stylist Karla Welch made a bold statement in a floor-length leopard print vintage Emanuel Ungaro number. Not to be outdone, queen of sartorial drama Tracee Ellis Ross flapped the wings on her Giambattista Valli gown while Tilda Swinton paraded about in neon pink pants and a top featuring mini hand clasps from Schiaparelli.

Other celebrities opted for sparkle to keep their looks from getting lost in the camera flashes: There was Kiernan Shipka in a sequined bourdeaux-colored Elie Saab look, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in silvery, fringed Givenchy and Silvia Hoeks in black sequined Saint Laurent with a uniquely square neckline. Elsewhere, Angela Sarafyan bucked traditionally seasonal colors by wearing head-to-toe lavender Kate Spade New York and Claire Foy did moody, all-over florals in an Elie Saab look.
