Ever since announcing her engagement to Prince Harry, the world's eyes have been fixed on Meghan Markle — and her style. We'll be following the Meghan Markle Effect™ with our column, "Meghan Markle Wore a Thing."
Okay, I know this column is here to document the style choices of Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, but before I can do that, I must discuss what surely had to be a highlight of the entire royal tour for the Duchess and her husband, the Duke of Sussex.
Coming in under the wire on the last day of their (very, very long) tour Down Under, the Duke and Duchess spent part of their time in Rotorua, New Zealand at a kiwi hatchery! As in, a place where they hatch baby kiwi birds!!! What a dream! They got to meet Tihei, a kiwi chick presented by Kiwi Encounter husbandry manager Emma Bean (which is my now my new dream job), and look how cute it was!
With that behind us, now we can talk about clothes. For her final day of the tour, the Duchess went with a custom sweater and skirt set from Givenchy — the brand which most notably designed her wedding dress — in a sharp navy. The sweater is rather simple, featuring elbow length sleeves, but it's the skirt that serves as the real standout with pleats that revealed flashes of bright blue and black as the Duchess moved. Conveniently, the Duke and Duchess also went on a "walkabout" (for my money, one of the best phrases from Down Under) which really showed off the skirt's color play.
The look was finished with matching navy pumps from Manolo Blahnik and a pair of stud earrings from Boh Runga, which were gifted to the Duchess by Jacinda Ardern, the Prime Minister of New Zealand. There were also extremely cute children, if you're into the Duke and Duchess being adorable with children (which, let's get real, you probably are).
What an incredible finish to a wonderful trip!
