We're still nearly two months out from the official start of the 2019 awards season, but on Sunday, the who's-who of Hollywood assembled at Los Angeles's Ray Dolby Ballroom for the so-called "Honorary Oscars" — more formally known as the 2018 Governors Awards. (The Governors Awards, now a decade in, serves as a scaled-back evening of industry recognition, hosted by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.)
The guest list was packed with everyone from movie-magic royalty (like Nicole Kidman, Ava Duvernay and Lupita Nyong'o) to industry darlings (including Timothée Chalamet, Saoirse Ronan and Lady Gaga) and everyone in between. The standout star of the evening, however, belonged to the legendary Cicely Tyson, who, at 93, received the event's Honorary Academy Award — and was seated between Shonda Rhimes and Oprah Winfrey during the black-tie dinner portion. Casual.
