If you're a purveyor of celebrity style who has a penchant for fancy frocks, you likely know that awards season is the prime time to catch stars at their dressiest. The rest of the year tends to be hit or miss, with summer especially leaning toward the casual. But this past week, stars used plenty of events — from movie premieres to an indie film awards ceremony — to amp up their looks with full-length gowns. Screenings of "The Nutcracker" were especially flush with good dresses, with Keira Knightley donning Chanel ruffles and Mackenzie Foy appearing in pretty pink Rodarte.
At the SCAD Film Festival in Savannah, Kiki Layne showed some skin in a backless Carolina Herrera halter dress, while across the country in Beverly Hills, Cate Blanchett opted for an asymmetrically-sleeved Givenchy for the Britannia Awards. And for the non-dress-loving types, Natalie Portman attended the IndieWire Honors in Los Angeles wearing a slim Celine suit so sharp that it might convince even the most Hedi Slimane-resistant fashion fans to bite their tongues, at least for a minute.
