Lisa Eldridge, she of the incredibly soothing YouTube makeup tutorials which have helped her to earn a whopping 1.8 million subscribers, is finally launching her debut beauty product. While the British makeup artist has been putting out collaborative makeup with Lancôme since becoming the brand's creative director back in 2015, she's actually never created her own independent line — until now. On Wednesday, Eldridge announced a limited-edition range of three lipsticks, each within the red color family, an apt choice considering the classic crimson lip has become somewhat of a signature for her. Velvet Morning is a bright orange-red; Velvet Jazz is a deeper brick shade; and Velvet Ribbon is a true fire-engine red with a blue base.

What's more, the genesis of the range was Eldridge's subconscious. "I often dream about makeup, and I dreamt about this product several years ago," said the makeup artist via a press release. "Inspired by my dream, I did a shoot a few years ago where I stuck actual red velvet onto a model's lips. It was a fun shoot but not very comfortable for the model. I always loved the quote by surrealist writer and poet, Andre Breton 'Objects seen in dreams should be manufactured and put on sale.' I really wanted to launch with something which was a collectible one-off, something different — and these incredible lipsticks are just that."

With a "velvet" finish and intense pigmentation, the cruelty-free formula is one Eldridge worked to get just right. She recommends applying it directly from the bullet for a "vibrant, velvet finish" or patting it onto lips with fingertips for "a painterly stained look." They come housed in flashy gold tubes embossed with Eldridge's signature on the cap. The lipsticks will be sold individually (for £26, or roughly $34 a pop) and as a set with a velvet pouch (for £75, or $97) exclusively on Eldridge's own website,, beginning Nov. 19, and will be distributed worldwide.
