Are the fantasy gifts listed every year around the holidays by retailers like Neiman Marcus and Net-a-Porter actually purchased by some secret tribe of uber-wealthy folks whose lives will never intersect with ours? Quite possibly! Either that or it's all a clever marketing tactic. Either way, Net-a-Porter has released its list of super-fancy fantasy gifts for 2018, and they're just as luxe you'd expect.
For the millennial who values experiences over stuff, there's "The Ultimate Wellness Retreat With Bodyism including a workout wardrobe from LNDR" at a new resort in Abu Dhabi, which clocks in at $24,000, but doesn't include flights to and from the United Arab Emirates. Not sure what Bodyism is? Us, either! But that's okay, because whatever classy person receives this probably won't have to Google it to know that Bodyism is basically a high-end workout.
For the giftee who values experiences, but also wants to have something more concrete than an Instagram photo to hang onto at the end of the day, Net-a-Porter has a few experiences lined up that lead to a tangible object at the end: "The Ultimate Fine Jewelry Experience at Paris Couture Week with Chopard," which involves getting a piece of bespoke Chopard jewelry made while wining and dining with fashion people in Paris during the couture shows; and "The Ultimate Horology Experience With Jaeger-LeCoultre," which involves taking a gem-setting class in Switzerland and being gifted a watch. Both experiences are listed as "price on application," not just "price upon request," presumably meaning that it is possible to have the cash for these experiences and still somehow be denied the opportunity to hand that cash over.
If you're on a budget, there's two options on the list that are less than $10K (a steal!) — "The Bespoke Shoe Experience With Gianvito Rossi" which costs $7,000, takes place in Milan and otherwise is exactly what it sounds like, and "The Ultimate Net-a-Porter Beauty Experience," which involves a haircut, massage and facial for $9,000 in either London or New York.
Last but not least, there are three gifts that are basically just license to go berserk with everything you've ever wanted from Net-a-Porter: a shoe subscription (pictured above) that allows you to cop one pair per month for a year that clocks in at $13,000; a year-long bag subscription that costs $20,000 and will provide its recipient with one new bag a month; and last but not least, "The Ultimate Net-a-Porter Party Wardrobe" that costs $90,500 and allows you to "build your dream party closet for the season" with a personal shopper.
Happy gifting season, one percenters!
