This time of year, it's easy to get caught up in overtly holiday-themed looks full of glitter and plaid and sequins and oh-so-much red. And don't get us wrong, we love those! They're great! The best! But then a celebrity like Tessa Thompson shows up on a red carpet wearing a show-stopping ensemble that feels both seasonally festive and completely fresh — like the mossy green Valentino gown and super-long braid she wore to the European premiere of "Creed II" in London on Wednesday — and it makes us rethink everything.

Thompson is a master of making unexpected style choices that pay off in a big way, and this look — put together by her go-to styling team, Wayman Bannerman and Micah McDonald — is out-there in a way that communicates she is here to look amazing and have some fun with fashion. With a high neckline, drop waist and voluminous skirt, the piece from Valentino's Fall 2018 Couture collection is a statement-maker for sure. It also happens to be cut in such a way that it perfectly shows off Thompson's tiny tattoo of the number five beneath her arm. Bannerman and McDonald forwent most accessories, with Thompson's only jewelry being a pair of small Cartier stud earrings and a ring.

To round out the look (and non-traditional but still holiday-adjacent vibes), makeup artist Alex Babsky gave Thompson a tomato-red matte lip, which, according to a post by the artist on Instagram, was inspired by Tamara de Lempicka's "Young Lady With Gloves" painting. Thompson also wore a coordinating manicure by nail artist Sabrina Gayle featuring half moons in the same hue.

And while we're on the subject of beauty, let's take a moment to appreciate the stunner of a braid hairstylist Lacy Redway created to accompany the look. Sleek and impeccably polished in the front and about a mile long in back, the classic three-strand plait reaches well below Thompson's waistline. It's completely mesmerizing, especially if you watch a video of it in motion Redway posted on Instagram:
