CNN hosted its annual "CNN Heroes: An All-Star Tribute" television special on Sunday night at New York's American Museum of Natural History. Now in its 12th year, the star-studded event honors 10 trailblazing individuals who make extraordinary contributions to humanitarian aid. This year's crop of heroes included, among others, a doctor fighting to break the cycle of violence and a woman teaching computer programming to girls in Nigeria.
During the broadcast that celebrated their achievements, honorees were introduced by celebrities – everyone from Will Ferrell to Cynthia Erivo — who actively support their charity work. The award-winning actress and playwright Danai Gurira recognized Ellen Stackable for starting Poetic Justice, a nonprofit geared toward helping incarcerated women find their voice and heal from trauma through writing.
Gurira took the stage to present the award in an elegantly ruched Sies Marjan gown. The fitted, blush-colored dress, which is currently available for purchase, featured a horse hair trim cascade detail down the center with a slit at the knee. Gurira's stylist Thomas Carter Phillips accessorized the silk cocktail number with silver strappy stilettos and diamonds by Sara Weinstock.
For beauty, hairstylist Vernon François gave the "Black Panther" actress effortless-looking side-swept twists. Similarly, makeup artist Yacine Diallo kept things fresh by focusing on highlighting Gurira's natural glow and by giving her lips a soft touch of pink to match the dress.
