I may be a beauty editor, but I've never been a big fan of eye shadow. I know, I know — sue me! Perhaps it's my naturally small eyes, but I typically find that any eye makeup besides a few coats of mascara is overpowering and makes them appear even tinier. But every so often a product comes along and changes my mind.
I first encountered Giorgio Armani's Eye Tints — liquid eye shadows that you swipe on with a doe-foot applicator, just like a lip gloss — over the summer while on a press trip with the brand. I had a little extra time to get ready for dinner in my room, so I played around with the shimmery, creamy formulas for a bit. And I became obsessed.
Despite being called a "liquid," this formula is really more of a thin, spreadable cream, and it dries down to a soft powder after about 30 seconds. That means you can quickly (read: messily, with zero regard for precision) paint a layer across your lids, let it dry for a second or two, and then smudge it out with your finger for a diffused, hazy effect. Unlike so many other eye shadows, you don't need to use it over a primer, it doesn't require a single tool or brush and there's absolutely no glitter fallout you'll need to clean up afterwards. So on top of being foolproof, it's also an incredibly quick addition to a makeup routine. My favorite shade is Golden Ashes, a shimmery champagne that lights up my eyes and offers a tiny bit of glimmer without being disco-ball-like.
