After a long awards season of menswear ruling the red carpet, female fashion had a major moment three days after the Oscars at the "Captain Marvel" premiere in London. The film, which is the first solo female-superhero vehicle in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, stars Brie Larson, who arrived at the event looking like a real-life superheroine in a royal blue custom Valentino Haute Couture dress. The off-the-shoulder gown featured cut-outs on the sides, a shimmering gold lining and a matching cape. It was a true Pierpaolo Piccioli work of art, which the actress accessorized very with dainty Sara Weinstock earrings and strappy Christian Louboutin heels.
Gemma Chan also whipped out particularly powerful look for the occasion, wearing a fiery red Brandon Maxwell two-piece ensemble from his Spring 2019 collection that featured flared trousers and a cape-styled turtleneck top. Her castmate, Lashana Lynch, did not wear a superhero-adjacent cape, but she did pick up on the vivid color palette memo in a body-hugging hot pink Michael Costello dress.
The men of the movie were dressed much more casually than their female counterparts: Jude Law wore a navy velvet bomber and white pants, while Leigh Francis chose an American flag denim jacket, paired with rolled up jeans and a statement fanny pack. Samuel L. Jackson took the more dapper route in a tartan grey blazer, which he teamed with a black top and white trousers.
