Ever since announcing her engagement to Prince Harry, the world's eyes have been fixed on Meghan Markle — and her style. We'll be following the Meghan Markle Effect with our column, "Meghan Markle Wore a Thing."

Meghan Markle, aka the Duchess of Sussex, is back in her home country this week (welcome back, Meghan!) for a bit of socializing and celebrating. On Tuesday, she gathered with friends for a baby shower in New York City. Clearly no stranger to Manhattan's color palette (or lack thereof) of choice, the Duchess wore an all-black ensemble.

Spotted outside The Mark Hotel on her way to the shower, the Duchess was outfitted in a quilted black jacket identified by Twitter style sleuths as a vintage silk trapeze coat by Courrèges from the '60s. She's been known to wear vintage pieces here and there, and often sources them from William Vintage, as was the case with this statement-making outerwear. The Duchess paired it with slightly more casual black skinny jeans (this style by Hatch, which she's worn before) and accessorized the look with black Le Specs sunglasses and a taupe Carolina Herrera tote that matched her Stuart Weitzman suede shoes.
