Many of the night's rosy dresses were equipped with tulle and ruffles, too.

Stars tend to play it pretty safe when it comes to their Oscars looks: Here at Fashionista, we were prepared to sit down one last time this awards season to watch a stream of silver and gold strapless column gowns come down the red carpet. And there were plenty of those. But as it turned out, several of the night's biggest actresses were feeling more fun and playful than we would have anticipated. Despite valiant attempts by other colors to replace it as the millennial-beloved hue of the moment, pink was easily the night's biggest color trend, and not only that, but these pink gowns were equipped with girly, voluminous, statement-making accents accents; tulle, ruffles and bows (also a Golden Globes trend) abounded.

Pink was also trending during January's Spring 2019 couture shows, and since many of Sunday night's guests were wearing off-the-runway couture pieces — like Gemma Chan in Valentino and Kacey Musgraves in Giambattista Valli — it makes sense that that would extend onto the red carpet.
