There's an entire psychology behind why all things sparkly remain a staple in the fashion world. Glimmering like a disco ball gives us a sense of optimism and prestige — and it's completely fair to want that in a world that sometimes feels like it's teetering on the brink of completely falling apart (happy Friday!).
This week, celebrities clearly needed those good vibes that only shining bright like a diamond can bring. Both Scarlett Johansson and Isabela Moner stepped out in dazzling silver, with Johansson sporting a simple strapless dress from Atelier Versace and Moner wearing an embellished number from Raisa & Vanessa's Spring 2018 collection. Naomi Campbell gleamed in a gold Valentino Couture gown, while Janet Mock, wearing Jenny Packham, was a vision in evergreen.
Other celebrities opted for a more subtle sparkle, like Sandra Oh, who wore a black Oscar de la Renta gown with some jewel action on the shoulder. Miley Cyrus also wore black, but her Saint Laurent gown's shimmer came from its bejeweled chest piece, while Zoe Saldana's fuchsia Givenchy Haute Couture came with a flash of ice around her neck.
And, of course, there were the celebrities who strayed from the sparkle trend altogether. Take Indya Moore, whose dark plum lipstick went perfectly with her shades-of-brown Iris van Herpen couture gown. Charlize Theron also matched her bright pink lipstick with the bottom half of her Givenchy Spring 2019 haute couture dress. Tessa Thompson's black Ronald Van der Kemp ensemble demonstrated how every dress — even fancy ones — can and should have pockets. Brie Larson's custom Prada dress from the Time 100 gala seconded that motion, too.
